
Dogs Country Club is seeking an experienced and dedicated Kennel Supervisor / Shift Manager to oversee the daily operations of our commercial boarding kennel. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ full-time experience working in a commercial kennel, daycare, boarding, veterinary, or animal care facility, with a strong background in animal behaviour, team leadership, and customer service.
This is a hands-on supervisory role responsible for maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare, hygiene, staff performance, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily operations of the kennel during assigned shifts.
- Lead, train, and support kennel attendants to ensure efficient workflow and high standards of care.
- Monitor the health, welfare, and behaviour of all dogs in the facility.
- Assess canine behaviour and safely manage dogs of different temperaments and social abilities.
- Coordinate feeding schedules, medication administration (as directed), exercise, enrichment, and cleaning routines.
- Maintain exceptional standards of kennel hygiene, sanitation, and biosecurity.
- Handle customer enquiries, bookings, check-ins, and check-outs professionally.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and behavioural issues.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, animal welfare legislation, and company policies.
- Complete daily reports, incident records, and staff handovers.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing staff development.
- Work collaboratively with management to improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of full-time experience working in a commercial kennel, dog daycare, boarding facility, veterinary hospital, or similar professional animal care environment.
- Previous experience as a Kennel Supervisor, Shift Manager, or Team Leader.
- Strong knowledge of canine behaviour, body language, and safe handling techniques.
- Demonstrated leadership and staff management experience.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- High standard of communication and customer service.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting, cleaning, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Flexible availability, including weekends, public holidays, and rotating shifts.
Desirable Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Animal Care, Animal Behaviour, Veterinary Nursing, or related field.
- Canine First Aid certification.
- Experience administering medications.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures.
- Experience using kennel management software.
