Pickering Grange Equestrian are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice to join their busy groom team, you will learn various aspects of horse management including:
Yard duties will include:
- Turning out and bringing in
- Mucking out
- Feeding, watering and haying
- Grooming
- Clipping and trimming
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the yard at all times
- Bandaging
- Tacking up
- Lunging/long rein
- Riding
- Assisting with events
- Field maintenance
- The right candidate would have an opportunity to go and groom for Rachel (owner) at one of her events.
A high standard of care and attention to detail will be expected to maintain the company image we pride ourselves on. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly, dedicated team. Within the role, the successful candidate will be working towards a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Equine with further training and employment available for the right candidate.
Desired skills and Qualities
- Must be able to work alone at times and as part of a team
- You need to be outgoing with a love of horses, a great team player and a wish to learn all about horses and their care.
- Applicants must have some experience of handling horses and show this on application

Desired qualifications
- GCSEs or equivalent in maths and English are desired
Future prospects
- Progression onto level 3 for the right candidate.
Training
- Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
- The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship
- The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
- The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
Things to consider
- No accommodation provided, but livery available.
- Due to the nature of horses, apprentices will be required to work weekends.
