Location: Hull Animal Welfare Trust (HAWT), South Cave, HU15 2HE
Contract: 5 x 4 hour shifts per week totalling 20 hours per week. The shifts will be every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday 2pm-6pm.
Salary: National Living Wage £12.71 per hour (aged 21 and over)

Hull Animal Welfare Trust (HAWT) is a local, independent animal rescue charity dedicated to the care, welfare, and rehoming of unwanted and abandoned animals. Founded in 1982, our South Cave-based rescue centre provides a safe haven for dogs, cats, and other small animals while they await loving new homes.

Role Purpose
As an Animal Welfare Coordinator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the day-to-day wellbeing of animals in our care. This is a hands-on, varied role that combines practical animal care, volunteer support, administration, and community engagement. You will work closely with our team and volunteers to provide a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for all animals, with a strong focus on rehoming and rehabilitation.
We are looking for someone passionate about animal welfare, capable of working independently and as part of a team, and who brings empathy, organisation, and resilience to the role.

Animal Care
- Carry out daily routines including walking dogs, cleaning kennels and catteries, feeding animals, and maintaining a clean, safe environment.
- Administer prescribed medicines to animals under the guidance of supervisory team members or veterinary professionals.
- Monitor animal health and behaviour, reporting any concerns to the CEO or supervisory team members promptly.
- Assist with veterinary appointments, including transporting animals to and from clinics and ensuring all medical records are kept up to date.
- Support the rehabilitation and socialisation of animals to improve their chances of successful rehoming.
Rehoming and Outreach
- Conduct home visits (pre- and post-adoption) to assess suitability and offer guidance to adopters.
- Support the rehoming process, including meeting prospective adopters, completing paperwork, and providing advice on responsible pet ownership.
- Assist with arranging neutering and microchipping procedures in accordance with the HAWT’s rehoming policies.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate records for each animal, including medical history, behavioural observations, and adoption documentation.
- Respond professionally and compassionately to telephone and email enquiries from the public.
- Use basic IT systems to update records, respond to emails etc.

Working Pattern and Requirements
- Flexible work is sometimes required, however routinely you will have a rolling 4 weekly rota
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
- Physical activity and outdoor work is required, often in varied weather conditions.

Qualifications
- Basic qualification in animal care, animal management or equivalent in experience.
Experience
- Experience working with or handling dogs and cats in a professional capacity.
- Experience in an animal rescue, veterinary practice, shelter or kennel environment.
- Experience of handling nervous or reactive animals.
- Experience working with the public in a professional or voluntary capacity.
Skills and Knowledge
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office, email, social media).
- Knowledge of animal health, welfare legislation, and best practice.
- Confident communicator with a polite and professional manner.
- Knowledge of local community engagement or fundraising work.
Personal Attributes
- Empathetic, calm under pressure, and confident around animals.
- Comfortable participating in fundraising events.
- Able to work flexibly and independently, with a proactive attitude.
