Do you love animals? Don’t mind getting muddy, hairy, and hands-on?

We’re looking for a practical, hardworking animal lover to join our team of Kennel Assistant’s at Chalkwell Kennels.

Kennel Assistant isn’t a role where you’ll spend the day cuddling puppies (although there are some perks!). It’s a busy, physical job that involves caring for dogs and cats of all sizes, breeds, personalities, and temperaments. One minute you could be exercising an energetic dog, the next you could be reassuring a nervous rescue cat/dog or rolling up your sleeves to clean kennels.

If you’re confident around animals, happy to get your hands dirty, and genuinely passionate about animal welfare, we’d love to hear from you for the Kennel Assistant role.

What You’ll Be Doing

Every day is different, but you’ll be involved in:

  • Handling dogs and cats of all sizes, breeds and temperaments
  • Feeding, grooming and caring for animals
  • Exercising and enriching animals in our care
  • Cleaning kennels, cattery units and exercise areas
  • Monitoring animal welfare and wellbeing
  • Working closely with a supportive team to maintain the highest standards of care

Please Note: This list is not extensive but gives a good overview of the duties of the role!

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

  • Previous experience working with animals
  • Confidence handling dogs and cats of all breeds, sizes and temperaments
  • A genuine passion for animal welfare and high standards of care
  • A practical nature – not afraid to get your hands dirty and muck in with tasks
  • Strong communication, reliable and teamwork skills
  • Enjoy being active and on your feet throughout the day
  • Ability to follow operating procedures and maintain high standards – committed to personal development
  • Right to work in the UK with a 5-year checkable history
  • UK driving licence and own transport, or the ability to reliably travel to site within 45 minutes

Desirable

  • Experience in an animal welfare setting
  • Canine and/or feline first aid qualification
  • Relevant animal care qualifications

Ready to Join Us?

If you’re the type of person who isn’t fazed by barking dogs, muddy boots, cleaning duties, or a busy day on your feet and you genuinely love working with animals we’d love to hear from you.
